The Sierra Leone Union of Photographers (SLUP) in collaboration with Access to Security and Justice Programme (ASJP) last Friday, June 21st 2013 started a-three day workshop at the Pastoral Centre in Kenema on the theme: ‘Know your Rights to Justice and showcasing success stories and challenging of the Justice sector’.

The Chairman of the occasion, His Worship, Joseph Samba Keifala Mayor of the Kenema City Council (KCC) thanked the participants for attending the workshop noting that such forums are good for the enrichment of their ideas. Mayor Keifala encouraged the participants to be very attentive during the workshop in order for them to benefit throughout the workshop will help them a great deal.
The National President of SLUP, Steven Elojiama Momoh said the union was established in 1998 at the time the country was going through civil unrest. He said that the union almost collapsed at a point due financial and logistical inadequacies. He disclosed that the revival of the SLUP came through the efforts of Steven Douglas, a Canadian, who encouraged them to shift interest from commercial photography to photo journalism so that they become true chroniclers of the country’s history.
