This April 2026 marks an exciting moment for Freetown as two cruise ships arrive on our shores. The first ship, SH Diana, arrives on the 25th of April. The second ship, Silver Wind, visits on the 28th and 29th of April.

These visits presented a valuable opportunity to showcase the beauty and character of Sierra Leone. As interest in cruise travel continued to grow, Freetown steadily gained attention as an emerging destination in West Africa. Each arrival created a chance to highlight what made the country unique, from our welcoming communities to our deep cultural roots.
Onshore excursions were carefully designed to give our visitors a meaningful and engaging experience. The three key tours were the Freetown Historical Tour, Bunce Island, and Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Guests explored historical and heritage sites that reflected the nation’s past and identity, offering insight into important moments in history.

In addition to heritage experiences, excursions also focused on wildlife and natural attractions. Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy scenic landscapes, discover local biodiversity, and experience the calm and beauty of the natural environment.

During the cruise visits to Freetown, guests enjoyed meaningful moments that highlighted the culture and resilience of Sierra Leone. Passengers from the Swan Hellenic Freetown historical tour spent time at the Ballanta Academy of Music. There, they experienced live music and cultural performances that reflected the rich artistic traditions of the country. The visit offered a chance to connect with local talent and appreciate the role of music in community life.

Silver Wind guests had a different but equally powerful experience. While docked at Tokeh Beach on the 28th of April, they watched an amputee football match. The event was both inspiring and engaging, showing strength, teamwork, and determination.
On the 29th of April, the ship transferred to Man-of-War Bay in Aberdeen. From there, passengers continued their excursions and explored more of what Freetown had to offer. These experiences highlighted the unique blend of culture, history, and human spirit that visitors encountered during their time in Sierra Leone.

These cruise visits were more than short stops. They played an important role in promoting tourism, supporting local businesses, and strengthening Freetown’s position as a cruise destination in the region. By offering rich and memorable experiences, the city continues to leave a lasting impression on every visitor who comes ashore.
Our goal is simple. We want every visitor to leave with a deep appreciation for our culture and our people. We believe that these cruise visits will help grow tourism, create new opportunities, and share the true spirit of Sierra Leone with the world.
All guests were welcomed with open arms, and the city looked forward to making each visit special and memorable.
