NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — An official of the west African nation of Sierra Leone is calling on the Spanish government to pay reparations to his country and New Haven over the revolt of African slaves aboard the Amistad.

The New Haven Register reports ( ) that Alpha Kanu, a presidential spokesman, said New Haven and Sierra Leone should sue over the 1839 insurrection.
