VSL Travel is delighted to share the successful welcome of over 100 cruise expedition guests who arrived in Freetown on 22 September 2026, docking at the iconic Queen Elizabeth II Quay. This remarkable visit marked the third cruise arrival of 2026, adding another exciting chapter to our commitment to showcasing the beauty, history, culture, and hospitality of Sierra Leone to the world.

Following their arrival, the guests were organised into groups based on their preferred tours, giving each visitor an opportunity to explore the unique experiences that make Freetown and its surroundings truly special.

One group embarked on the Freetown Historical Tour, discovering the city’s rich heritage, historical landmarks, and fascinating stories. The experience was further enriched with a visit to Balanta Academy, where guests enjoyed captivating cultural performances that celebrated Sierra Leone’s vibrant traditions and artistic expressions.

Another group journeyed to Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, an inspiring destination dedicated to chimpanzee conservation and environmental awareness. The visit offered guests an opportunity to connect with Sierra Leone’s natural beauty and learn more about the importance of protecting its remarkable wildlife.

Meanwhile, another group travelled to Bunce Island Slave Fort, one of Sierra Leone’s most significant historical sites. The visit provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the country’s history and its connection to the transatlantic slave trade. Following this moving experience, the group enjoyed lunch at Mamba Point, adding a relaxing culinary stop to their day of exploration.

Although the rain presented a few challenges, it did not dampen the spirit of the expedition. With careful coordination and dedication from the team, all groups successfully completed their scheduled tours and were safely returned to their cruise ship.

At VSL Travel, we believe that every visitor deserves an authentic and memorable experience of Sierra Leone. Welcoming more than 100 guests on this third cruise arrival of the year was another proud milestone for our team and a testament to the incredible experiences our destination has to offer.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the cruise expedition guests, our partners, guides, and everyone who contributed to making the visit a success.

VSL Travel looks forward to welcoming more cruise expeditions to Freetown, creating unforgettable journeys that connect visitors with our history, culture, wildlife, heritage, and warm hospitality.
