Kirkby-in-Malhamdale Primary School’s partnership with a school in Sierra Leone is to continue.

It has just secured another Connecting Classrooms grant from the British Council, which will allow a further round of reciprocal visits this year.

The partnership – part of the Global School programme – was launched last year after headteacher Gary McHale visited St Francis Primary School in Bo.

He described the visit as inspirational and heartbreaking in equal measure and said the people were welcoming and friendly despite high levels of poverty and a lack of basic resources.
