The UN envoy in Sierra Leone has called for an inclusive government as President Ernest Bai Koroma commences his second and final five-year term on a somewhat shaky ground.

Following a highly divisive November 17 election, the composition of the new cabinet has met little expectations in terms of regional representation, hence failing to meet the threshold of the much anticipated government of national unity.

Mr Jens Anders Toyberg-Frandzen Wednesday warned that in spite of progress since the end of the civil war, the government must continue to strengthen institutions to maintain the gains realised during the transition.

The UN Secretary-General’s representative said an inclusive government was crucial to addressing the root causes of the conflict, including ethnic tensions.
