I hear NEC have announced about 70% of the votes and the lead has increased even further (reports say lead is over 300,000 but can’t confirm yet, maybe i heard wrong)

I haven’t listened to the records yet but will this evening. Ernest hasbeen dismissed for saying he wants to run Sierra Leone as a business. Isee nothing wrong with that statement, definitely prefer that to itbeing run as a charity. We need a business head.. however.. if i dare say.. this is whati think of the parties and candidates so far. Berewa and SLPP
I don’t think Berewa inspires confidence when he speaks.. and he hasthis sleeping sickness thing that is well documented. However, he couldbe a dark horse.. and the fact that he emerged as presidentialcandidate from out of nowhere signals this is someone who knows how toplay the game. Though the SLPP has done some good things, they alsohave some glaring failures. Berewa’s promise of continuity was amistake, but maybe it was taken out of context. His choice of runningmate is also questionable – as a foreign minister i just don’t think wesaw enough of him.

Ernest and APC
What i like about earnest is that he is coming from a businessbackground. No one disputes that. It’s his party i’m a bit more worriedabout. They had a long running dispute which apparently has beensorted. I don’t believe it.. throw access to power and wealth in themix and i fear they may spend the first couple of years fightingamongst themselves. The fact that he didn’t seem to control his partyalso is cause for worry. I’m not sure the APC are ready.

Margai and PMDC
I like that he is outspoken, it would be even better if he spoke moresense. They have been going on hype. Remove Margai and tell me whatthey have left. Not much i fear.. and just being a Margai is not arequirement for the presidency. I think they should spend sometime inopposition and convince the people they’re serious.

Who would i vote for? As yet.. undecided.

as much as moving the capital is not feasible for the next 20 years… i quite like the idea of moving it away from Freetown. I almost want Freetown to be an independent state.

Hmm, i was thinking the same. Instead of focusing on Liberia’s woes to make us feel good about ourselves, we should searching for our positive stories.

Sounds like good news… but no one from SL has confirmed this story. Maybe everyone just wants them to get on with it. If the govt can make a miracle of this before elections then no one else stands a chance.

Hello Claudma… welcome to VSL forum! Do tell us a bit about you…

I hear what you are saying. I think it’s easier for non-Sierra Leoneans to head off to work in Sierra Leone, the big bucks help too. There has been a lot of talk about utilising the skills of Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora as well. Whilst this is no admission that home-based Sierra Leoneans are not capable in performing in certain positions, i think tapping into the skills in the diaspora will open up an wide range of possibilities. I think we need a like a skills database of Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora. In some cases, its just difficult to keep track of what folks are doing.

Of course, a Sierra Leonean will not be paid the same rates which make it a not too attractive proposition if folks have a family and mortgage to take care of. Not everyone can sacrifice their time if it is not going to be financially rewarding.

Anyways, stick around… its fun around here, and we all learn a thing or two everyday.
