River Number 2 Beach Guesthouse

You have got to do this trip and stay ... its stunning, another stunning venue, scenery, and people of SL. The rooms are clean and basic - but hey - this is not a 5 star hotel, its a beach hut - and if you are going to one of the most stunning beaches in the world to sit in your room - then don't bother to go here... you wont enjoy it. But if its beautiful beaches, a back drop of unspoilt jungle, and basic but well served menu .. then head there for a least a couple of nights. Also this is a community run, community funded project, and you have the smug satisfaction that all the profit from your money is going to educate and improve a large local community.

I visited Number 2 River while living in Sierra Leone multiple times in the late 60's. Recently I had the opportunity to wisit again and I was more than pleased. The cabins were clean, the beach immaculate, the food wonderful and staff perfect. My thanks to George, Essau and Janet for meeing all of our needs. I would return in a heartbeat. Believe it or not, but one of the cleanest beaches I have ever seen. The raod is under construction from Freetown, but don't let that deter you. It is worth every bump in the road.xwgb5

The villagers couldn't have been nicer and the food couldn't have been fresher and more delicious. The accommodations are basic, but our room was clean (and cleaned everyday), had a queen size bed, had a bathroom with a toilet, shower and running water. There was a generator that was used at night to provide electricity. Now for the reason to stay here; The scenery was the most beautiful I have EVER seen in my life! This includes pictures of Hawaii! The beach was beautiful and we took a canoe trip up the No. 2 River (the river and the beach are connected) which had a beautiful waterfall that you can hike up on. They also had excursions to Banana Island which we didn't do as we just wanted relax and recharge our batteries. Breakfast consisted of toast, butter, jam and eggs prepared anyway you liked and was plentiful. Lunch and Diner consisted of your choice of seafood (fish, lobster etc) or chicken all of which was some of the most delicious meals I've eaten in my life.

We arrived at River No 2 initially intending to stay for just 2 nights. Within 30 minutes we had contacted VSL, re-jigged our intinerary and changed this to 3. The white beach, turquoise sea and mountain backdrop make for a stunning location. The community run aspect of No 2 make for a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere and Action Man looked after us a treat. The rooms are basic, but clean and right on the beach. The food was great, Barracuda coming off the boat at 10am and on your plate a couple of hours later!
