Title: Books...whales..spiders...Visit Sierra Leone site newsletter! [Oct 2004]

Hi,
I hope all is well with you and all. As you may have guessed the newsletters from the site are
a bit random at the moment but I suspect they will take on a monthly sort of schedule. If I
do receive urgent information then I will pass it on as and when.

So what's been going on?

Images from Tiwai Island have been added to the site. I must warn you though if you suffer
from a touch of arachnophobia as they include some rare spiders :-) There seems to be a
level of serenity about the island which makes it very appealing!

For those of us who are looking thinking escaping the chills and head of to Sierra Leone for
Christmas there is now a flight schedule on the site. I'm looking to also get a comprehensive
list of travel agents offering tickets for flights to Sierra Leone.

Whales? Sierra Leone?!

Yes! Apparently you can get a chance to see whales around the coast of Sierra Leone!
Fascinating stuff! Read all about this, Takudama Reservoir, Bunce Island and much more in
the new article: Sierra Leone - An Overwhelming experience...(with pictures)

I was sent this book...
"Green Oranges on Lion Mountain" is a book written by Dr.Emily Joy, a VSO volunteer who
was based in Serabu Hospital not long before the war broke out. As I'm always curious about
how Sierra Leone and it's people are perceived by outsiders, I found this book very
entertaining indeed and an honest view by someone who had never been to the region
before. Well worth a read.
All Royalties are also going to the Children in Crisis' work in Sierra Leone.
Other reviews:
"Green Oranges illustrates the tenacity and determination of the people of Sierra Leone."
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York
"I found this book inspirational." British Medical Journal
"Very down to earth, very funny, very human." Yorkshire Evening Post
"Heart stopping stories. I couldn't stop myself turning the pages." Barbara Trapido
"A fantastic book with humanity and humour. It is both uplifting and an extraordinary tale of
the
power of the human spirit." Phil Hammond
"I'm glad to see my books were put to such good use." Maurice King, Editor of Primary
Surgery
"A real luscious fruitcake of a book....who nicked my good amputation saw?" Sr. Hilary Lyons

What now?
In a bid to have an idea about the sort of visitors the site is getting there is s imple poll on
the homepage which basically asks whether or not you've been to Sierra Leone before...just
select yes or no...Thanks!

A few people have also suggested having a forum on the site where people can discuss
issues relating to Sierra Leone (besides politics). What do you think? And would you be
interested in moderating such forums? Please let me have suggestions.

That's all for now people...thanks for all the support and please continue to visit the site and
share the link http://www.visitsierraleone.org

Until next time....
