FREETOWN — Sierra Leone's President Ernest Koroma on Monday welcomed Princess Anne of the United Kingdom, who is on a three-day visit to the west African nation with her husband.
At a ceremony at State House, Koroma recalled "the close link between Britain and Sierra Leone", adding the former colonial power had remained a loyal development partner.
Princess Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, is in Sierra Leone with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence as part of the country's ongoing 50th anniversary of independence celebrations.
The couple is due to visit several charities with which Princess Anne is associated, including Save the Children UK and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) as patron, according to the British embassy.
She will also visit the main referral Children's Hospital and the Milton Margai School for the Blind, and will meet representatives of UK companies operating in Sierra Leone.
Her visit comes almost 50 years after her mother visited the country in 1961.
