Looking to get away for a long weekend? This itinerary takes you out of the city and close to nature. Tiwai Island is Sierra Leone’s first community conservation programme and has continued to grow from since it was  established. As one of the last remaining tracts of Upper Guinean Congolese Rainforest, Tiwai is a wildlife sanctuary of profound ecological importance.

Working in Freetown and hardly have the time to spend the weekend with your partner or friends? Maybe you have thought about it but never got down to making it happen. You in town for only the weekend? This itinerary is ideal for you. It appeals to city folks who are looking to get away without venturing into the country. Tacugama is only about 20 mins from Freetown but once you get there it feels like you are much further away.

For those who want to see the provinces without venturing too deep into the beyond. You will experience a taste of the Sierra Leone countryside with a trip to Makeni and Kabala. Experience the beautiful hilly terrain of Kabala and its cooler temperature, and even follow some of the walking traills around the town.

This is an alternative to the 14 day, Freetown and Islands trip. In 7 days you get to experience the best of Freetown, Bunce Island and Banana Island. Ideal if you only have a week and wish to play it safe visiting sites in and around Freetown.

Originally designed for a freelance photographer, this is a fantastic trip to take just after the rains, ideally in October.
