Senegalese

Don’t be put off by the weird green fluorescent lights outside or the proximity to the Wilkinson road traffic; the Senegalese is worth a visit. It’s a small local restaurant with a dozen tables which serves dishes with a Senegalese theme; it’s a simple menu with meat, fish or chicken with a variety of accompaniments like Atieche, Rice, Plantain etc. but it’s well done.
No, better than well done, their grilled snapper is fantastic, a worthy successor to the now-demolished Ramadas as best fish in Freetown.
They used to play great music too (and still do if you ask), but then they installed a TV and now you have to drag the staff from it’s mesmeric glow to get service and sometimes when they're busy they rush the food; so if it doesn’t look cooked send it back.

Don’t let that stop you, GO! it’s a firm favourite of a large number of my friends and it's good value.

(4* because : the grilled snapper , grilled over charcoal with spices and lime)

fantastic food

I frequent this place, the food is very very good. The restaurant is very busy over the weekend, so I suggest you go during the week. The price is right, the atmosphere is chill and unpretentious and the food is just terrific. The attieke is yummy!

YUMMY (but be very patient!)

This restaurant is really really good! The staff is lovely but be ready to be patient: the dishes really do take up to 1h to be served...However once you know that and are ready to wait, believe me you will not be disappointed! The attieke is really really good (I miss it!) and I also know from friends that the meat is great too...
I love the atmosphere (contrarily to places like country lodge or mamba point) you actually feel you are in West Africa, and that is great to be able to mix!
