Good rooms, two swimming pools and wonderful ocean views. Hotel Barmoi is a great choice.

Hotel Barmoi overlooks the ocean from its location at Aberdeen, within five minutes walking distance of the Lumley Beach and not far from the transfer ports in Aberdeen. Please note that this hotel sometimes requires at least a weeks notice when placing reservations. The hotels has two swimming pools, a good restaurant and is a popular choice for events.

Good standard accommodation in excellent location

I am currently staying in the hotel for the first time in several years. The rooms in the lower and newer block have a fantastic view over the Atlantic and are in very good condition. The upper block has the older rooms without view. These are OK - everything works, but missing the view which is the best thing about staying here is a shame. The two pools are nice - the lower is better because it is right next to the sea. The staff are generally polite, if not attentive. If you have a car, the car park is very small, so getting blocked in is a problem. Overall, I have enjoyed my stay and will certainly return.

Overall good needs improvement

I found the hotel good though entry was congested and big gate and narrow entry provided a bad feeling. Can be improved by architect advice and after renovation is complete. Once you enter, it is very good inside. Rooms being near to sea have little humidity which is not uncommon but then need some room freshner. Strongly recommend to provide water, coffee preparation arrangement free of cost and a small fridge in each room. management may also look for some reduction in food items. Still it is much much better than Bitumani Hotel where AC, telephone, internet and room service nothing worked. I can recommend this hotel.

BEST HOTEL IN FREETOWN

At first thought I was shocked at the price, but once inside I was very pleased. The view of the Atlantic from the Balcony in the new wing (Bai Bureh Wing) was awesome. The sunset was one of the best I have ever seen at the Lower Terrace Pool. The Staff was well versed and friendly. I chose this hotel for the "relaxing" part of my holiday - and was fully rewarded by this choice. The Rooms, the Services and the Restaurant met Standards. My Room was worthy of the money I spent, (AC worked fine), the restaurant served a large variety of dishes which were mostly available (Room Services are also available), and the Breakfast Buffet was the largest I found in Freetown. There are two Pools; one is located directly close to the Sea, which is perfect - although there is no direct connection to the Beach. The Hotel Services (Laundry, Bar, Free Wireless, Free Bus Shuttle and many more….) worked very fast. I enjoyed my stay very much and cannot complain about any of the issues other visitors wrote about - obviously the Hotel has made great improvements.

Comfortable stay

Stayed here on business. As with all hotels you can find something wrong. Stayed in the new block in one of the rooms overlooking the sea and it was a very clean and comfortable room with quiet a/c. My scores reflect this. Slept well, bathroom clean and tidy, and a/c nice and quite. Breakfast by the pool was a nice way to start, even if the choice of food was not wide. No internet in the new rooms, but you can sit by the pool and access the free service. I would return to the hotel. The hotel certainly listened to issues during the week stay and put things right when issues arose. I would revisit but only if a new room was offered.

Would be a good idea to give guests 2 free bottles of mineral water a day, improve the food and smarten up the reception and sitting area. if these were to the standard of the new block wing, the hotel would be a winner.

We came, saw, and left in disbelief

Me and my wife had an extraordinarily unpleasant stay at Hotel Barmoi in Aberdeen, Freetown and can only advise against booking there. Above everything we were simply outraged by the ignorance and rudeness the staff at the Barmoi displayed. Across the board - from the waiters at the restaurant to the management - everybody there seemed to be greatly annoyed by the presence of guests. They were unfriendly, unhelpful and simply did not give a s***.

Apart from the staff, the rest was either gross (rooms, bathrooms, lobby chairs), tiny (pools-more like the size of 2 bathtubs) or non-existent (Internet).
The restaurant was awful with miniature plates for high prices: E.g. you order a sandwich for $7 and get 2 slices of white toast with processed cheese and and old tomato on it. Coffee is brewed once a day in the morning and is being served from the same pot throughout the whole day.

Sierra Leone resp. Freetown already not being a particularly welcoming place for Westerners, staying at Hotel Barmoi will make your experience even worse. Guaranteed.
