In 2011 I returned to Sierra Leone after a 40 year absence. I was pleasantly suprised to see it was the same warn friendly place where I taught school while serving in the Peace Corps in the late 60\'s. the major difference is that Freetown is a huge traffic jam.. As long as you aren\'t in a hurry, it\'s fine. If you want a true taste of West African life, go to Sierra Leone. Don\'t just visit the capital, but take some days to visit smaller towns in the provinces where the pace is more relaxing. Also don\'t miss Number 2 River where the prices are reasonable and beaches amazing.
